Celebrating Beltane with a greener lifestyle

Celebrating Beltane with a greener lifestyle

Beltane is a pagan festival celebrated in 1st May, about halfway between the spring equinox and the summer solstice. It represents the peak of Spring and celebrates life, vitality and fertility. This year I decided to celebrate Beltane (May Day) by adding one more green living choice to my life. I have always remember me, since childhood to early 20’s, with a bicycle. Adulthood conditioning took me towards cars, and there are more than 20 years now that I am living without a bicycle. In the last couple of years, after major life changes that brought me a job in the same town I live, I felt that old “bike dream” to revive again inside of me. But living in a 4th floor with no elevator had created some inner resistance and a mindset of “being impossible”. Near Beltane, I had the courage to buy a fold-bicycle, which is lighter and easy to manage, and honor life with a greener way of living. Today, I went for a ride around the city and country side, smelling the flowers, hearing the birds songs, feeling the mild-wind on my face, noticing the bursting of life everywhere. I felt free and alive as I used to feel as a child. Now the challenge is to use it on my daily life (e.g. going to work). I hope I can enjoy it while knowing I am contributing to a better world. I dedicate my (eco) choice for my highest good and for highest good of All and of the Whole.

Every time I ride my bicycle, I feel my heart singing:

Earth may I honor you, Earth may you honor me, Earth may I care for you, Earth may you care for me…

…as we are all part of the same.
